REMINDERS AND UPDATES
Vic High Reads --
-- is happening during Block C on May 26. Grades 9-11 students in Language Arts will be presenting the following books from our longlist of 12:

- Death in the Jungle -- a non-fiction book about Jim Jones and the cult of Jonestown
- The Family Experiment - a novel about a reality t.v. show in which five couples raise a virtual child from birth to 18 in 9 months
- Invisible Prisons -- a non-fiction book about a Canadian adolescent who was held in solitary confinement for 730 days during the 1970s on charges of minor theft and aggravated assault -- and filed a court
- Hole in the Sky -- a sci-fi novel about first contact
The assembly will take approximately half a block. Classes from all subject areas are invited to this celebration of reading and the support of attendance is appreciated. Teachers and students put in a lot of creativity and work into their presentations.
There will be a sign-up sheet in the classroom from May 18-25. All classes who attend will been given ballots to vote for their favorite presentation. Sign up before May 26 to get your ballots.
Removal of Canva Accounts
Existing Canva Pro accounts will be removed on Friday June 22; students should download any projects they wish to save before this date since projects will disappear once the account is deleted.
Our currently free school subscription allows a maximum of 500 students annually, so accounts must be cleared every year to ensure access for students who need it.
Returning students can renew their account through the library in September.
Reminders to grade 12 students to return learning resources
During the first week of June, all grade 12 teachers with a block A courses will be given a list of students who owe either textbooks or library materials before they leave our school. Check your office mailboxes
Please remind the students about what they currently have; although the library sends email reminders, that face-to-face reminder from you can be effective in contributing to returns!
Let students know that all resources should be returned to the library no later than Friday, June 19.
Resource renewals, non-renewals, and requests
The library will be renewing CBC Gem (documentary channel), APTN+ (Indigenous Channel), the Westcoast Reader for ELL and Le Monde en Marche for French Immersion as they are well-utilized resources.
The library will not be renewing CBC Curio with the BBC and National Geographic Channels; although an excellent resource, it really hasn't taken off in usage at our school and library funds can be better spent elsewhere.
