          READING THEMES & RESOURCES

Science Literacy Week:  Sept. 18-24  (Theme is "E is for Energy")

          NEW! INDIGENOUS LIBRARY

As part of an ongoing effort to build our Indigenous resources to support curriculum and to decolonize the library, all of our resources authored by Indigenous writers, or in partnerships with Indigenous authored have been organized together using the Brian Deer Classification system. This system was developed by a Mohawk librarian in the 1970s and is in use at some post secondary institutions. It organizes knowledge based on Indigenous ways of knowing and will be a more visible and accessible collection to help Vic High teachers and students access Indigenous-authored resources.

The collection will be ready for Truth and Reconciliation Week - and formally celebrated with a ceremony.

          INQUIRY-BASED RESEARCH

The library can support your classes engaged in research in one or all parts of the inquiry process, from narrowing a topic to an focused inquiry question through developing database search strategies, note-taking strategies and properly citing sources. Getting authentic work from student is especially challenging with Chat GPT, but the inquiry process will help to circumvent this challenge.
